Vote George

We stayed in last night after a long day with a glass or two of the red wine we brought with us. We tried the tv but there was not one channel in English so we sat on the balcony and had an early night. First in for breakfast at 7.30 prompt with a basic but adequate spread. Tea, coffee, tinned fruit, whole fruit, cornflakes and chocolate flakes, breads, cheese, ham and cakes. We had an hours walk around town but Claire’s camera batteries ran out. We found a little shop where we bought water; the locals seem to drive either a twin cab pick-up or quad bikes. Back to the hotel for the Thompson reps spiel and then it was Maria and Jacqueline turn from TOPA. They drove us around all the development sites in the area. It was interesting but the only trouble was that the Turkish GP qualifying was on the tv in our hotel reception. We just got back in time to see a replay of Massa’s winning lap. Never mind I still hope to watch the race tomorrow. It might mess the order of play up a bit as we pick up our car at 9am and the race starts at 10am.

Following early morning excitement off we walked along the beautiful beach to Funana’s for a couple of drinks and a steak. It had a strange style consisting of 3 small steaks, chips, rice, cus cus, salad, corn flowers (sweetcorn) with a deep fried banana and peri peri sauce. Francesca was our waiter, he was cleaning tables when we first arrived behind Claire. I have put a picture of the burger van in where we ate yesterday to show you how desperate we are. After lunch we sat in the sun to read for a while before going for a long walk along the beach where everyone seemed to be having a go at kite surfing. Most were unsuccessful but I managed to catch one in the distance that could do it but the water was very choppy. Lovely beaches and you can walk for miles and miles if you like that sort of thing.

I am sorry about the delay of posting these entries but it’s the same old trouble in an underdeveloped country, no internet sites. The hotel one doesn’t work, the one across the road was closed and I walked all around town (both roads) and only managed to find one more where I had to walk up stairs with broken beer bottles, tramps and builders rubble to get to it. I waited 5 minutes while they unsuccessfully tried to get online and gave up. Not sure where I will post the first 2 entries yet, especially as its Sunday tomorrow.

They are obviously having an election here at the moment judging from the posters everywhere. Amusingly, both candidates are called George and I have great fun saying “Vote George!” whilst walking along the streets.
